Legendary Creatures 2....The Wendigo
"The Wendigo is a powerful spirit. It can take on many forms. Part wind, part tree, part man, part beast, shape-shifting between them.
It can fly at you like a sudden storm without warning from nowhere and devour you, consume you with its ferocious appetite.
The Wendigo is always hungry, its hunger is never satisfied. The more it eats, the bigger it gets, the bigger it gets, the hungrier it gets and we are helpless in the face of it.
Nothing between the earth and the sky is bad but there are spirits that should be feared. These are spirits that are angry. No one believes in spirits anymore.
He who hears the cry of the Wendigo is never seen again....."
This is the third letterbox in our Legendary Creatures series. Roughly 2 miles roundtrip. (Checked on Apr. 22nd, 2007, OK)
From Rt. 3 in RI, take Rt. 165 2.8 miles west to the white church. (Frosty Hollow Rd). Follow this dirt road another 1.5 miles to a T, take a right and in .45 miles, park at the Breakheart Pond parking area.
From the parking area, look to 141° and cross the bridge, follow the path at 98°, thru the red gate. At the Y, follow yellow.
As you cross the first bridge, keep and eye out for The Wendigo. This is one of his drinking holes
Past a tree, knocked over during one of his rages.
At junction, take 289° (yellow)
Cross another bridge. This is another watering hole.
After this bridge, Yellow swings NE, follow it.
Over another bridge
At the 4 way, leave yellow and go 233°, at the Y go 229°
Thru a stone wall. 62 (quiet) paces further along from this stone wall, look for the majestic wooden sentinel to the west. This is the guardian of The Wendigos lair.
From the base of this sentinel, 3 paces southerly on the west side of the wall is where The Wendigo makes his home. REHIDE WELL please and use both sides of the logbook pages!
Return to trail and continue on
At the 4 way, 224° and onward till the parking area.
