FOSSIL IN THE ROCK
A new fossil has been found! Come see for yourself!
UPDATE....INTACT AS OF MAY 30th, 2006...Came out of hiding to check up on the Dragon and this one...We're planning on checking all of our boxes as our days off allow so stay tuned!
To park, drive like you would to our Dragon in the Rock box....but instead of continuing straight onto North Rd, follow Canonchet left and drive until the Long Pond Fishing Area lot on the right.
From the parking area, find the trail to the west. Quite quickly at the intersection, head 342°.
Follow a ways, past large boulders, stone walls. Eventually head down a rocky bit and walk over a path of stones. (Today it was like The Lost World here! Misty, humid, wow!)
Up again, onward a short ways, and down (The Dragon is nearby).
As you head upward again, keep an eye out for the tree of two with two blazes midway up or so. From this tree, leave the trail and continue upward at 229° on the mossy incline.
At the top, make your way up lichen covered rock to a rocky open area.
Head westward till you find the large crack in the rock. A lichen covered boulder is resting next to this large crack.
From the lichen covered boulder, look to 151°. You should see another boulder behind a pine. Check under the NW side of this boulder, behind sticks and leaves, for the newest fossil find. Please rehide well for the next explorers.
Retrace your steps when you are complete or continue on to explore some more.
Please feel free to let us know how you make out.
