Egyptian Gods and Goddesses Pt 4
It is rightly said that the 'Dawn of Conscience' occurred in Ancient Egypt. There was belief in a 'Great God', the supreme deity from which all else came, and from which emerged Ma'at, the quality of being in right-relationship with the surrounding world.
There were the roots of morality and ethics, the idea that this life was a passage into the next, and that what happened on that passage was determined by one's conduct in the here and now. These concepts were the anchor of Egyptian life, and were well in place five thousand years ago.
Egyptian gods and goddesses were personifications of essential aspects of human life, representing the most powerful and potent forces. These forces are exactly the same today. In these letterboxes, you will meet the twelve gods and goddesses (the last two are in this series). Chosen for their well-defined characteristics and the strength of their influence--and the forces they personify.
The last two gods have been placed!! All 12 are now out, waiting to be found. The last two are hidden on a 4 mile loop in both Rhode Island and Connecticut. Portions of this walk are open to hunting during the season (RI and CT) so please wear orange during these times!!!
To park, take Route 138 in RI west from RT 95 until Camp Yawgoog Rd on the left. You will see a big sign for Camp Yawgoog here. Follow this road to the entrance of the camp, then turn right onto a gravel road you will follow about 1.2 miles until the yellow/blues blazes turn into the woods on the right, there is room for a few cars here.
CLUES: Once parked, follow the yellow/blues blazes into the woods across from "1990". Follow a ways, up a rise on rock.
At the Y with the stump, take right (blue/yellow), down a rocky ravine, across a dual half-log bridge, up to a flat rock open area. Find where yellow branches northward away from blue along the rock. Roughly 164 paces from the blue dual headed arrow along yellow, find the "Rock Shark Fin" next to the trail on the west. A blazed tree is to the north and a blazed pine is behind you. 4 paces from the trail to the west, "PTAH" lies on the west side of 2 flat stacked rocks. (RI) REHIDE WELL PLEASE!!!!
Now, retrace your steps, back to the dual headed blue arrow, back down to the dual log bridge, back up the ravine to the Y with the stump. Now take the blue trail at 328°
Follow this trail, over a plank bridge, up and over some rocks. On a ways. Coming to an open area with shelter and fire pit. Continue on blue to the NW. S
Soon trail turns to a grassy lane and comes to a T. Take a left here, away from blue for now. At the next grassy lane, reconnect with blue coming from the woods to your right and continue on the lane. Soon, re-enter the woods.
You will shortly notice a stone wall on the left and the trail opens up a bit. About 23 paces from the start of this open area, notice a small rise to the SW, go up the rise to the large pine on the south side of the stone wall. 18 paces west along the wall from this large pine, search for "THOTH" on the south side of the wall, behind a rock. He lies near the large pine with the Bulging Eyes and Mouth! (CT) REHIDE WELL PLEASE!!
Back to blue and continue on to the edge of a large pond. Find the two blue blazes on rock at 164°. Follow the trail down from here, along the brook, enjoying the rocky cliffs on either side. Crossing a plank bridge to the other side of the brook.
Follow to bridge that crosses the brook and here take a left on this gravel/dirt road to follow back to your car, ignoring an intersecting dirt road on the right.
Hope you had fun finding the last of the Gods. Let us know how they are doing!!
